From the Founder
As some of you may know,,East End Productions recently expanded to historic Jonesborough, TN.
Working on events since 1999 in New York has been quite the experience and adventure. My first show in Woodstock, NY the Riders Unite Rally for the Special Olympics NY was my grass root event. Unfortunately the events from 9-11-01 forced me to move on and out of NYC, bringing me to the alliance with Riverhead Raceway,Long Island ,NY, the oldest existing race car track in the world. Attending the races at the track during childhood and evolving to racing in the enduros every weekend made building The Long Island Motorcycle Fair a personal venture at the track. Working with Jim and Barbara Cromarty (owners of Riverhead Raceway) is definetly an honor. They have owned a traveling circus in the early years (60's/70's),, created the famous Orange County Fair (hence the Indian monument at the track) and decided to settle down from the road and moved into the famous Amityville Horror House and purchased Riverhead Raceway in the mid 80's as second owners. Their stories are far from boring...
Long Island "WAS" the homeland for motorsports and racing. There were numerous amounts of race tracks and events scattered around Long Island throughout the years with a diverse amount of events being held within each. In 1904, William Vanderbilt II , created the first sanctioned motor racing event to mankind called "The Vanderbilt Cup". The announcement that the race was to be held caused considerable controversy in New York. It brought a flood of legal actions in an attempt to stop the race and the politicians soon jumped in, holding public hearings on the issue. Vanderbilt prevailed and the inaugural race was run over a 30.24 mile course of winding dirt roads on Long Island. Sound familiar?? - times have not changed,, The Long Island Motorcycle Fair hit similar roads,, worried that the event would cause serious problems. But a little dignity from a grandfather claused track, the mission continued. With the population growth and noise barriers these events are no longer easy to host and the foreseeable future at Riverhead Raceway is undetermined. Jim and Barbara Cromarty fought numerous battles in court (tedious, tiring, expensive process) keeping the only race track on the Island open. The old timers have resorted to polishing their wheels in the garage,, young drag racers run from the cops constantly searching for "spots" ,,, and the fastest growing motorsport of motorcycle stunt riding is performed in the streets with ongoing casualties...classic example - Ronnie Giovelli of Reality Racing hosted a major event a few years back at Westhampton Raceway to get the underground motorcycle riders a destination to perform and now its a golf course,,,,with that said,,, my dedication to hosting events for the enthusiasts goes beyond a duty,,,its a need
Thanks to Jim and Barbara Cromarty, myself as a future motorcycle event pioneer continues. Barbara Cromarty, a member on the NASCAR committee gave me direction in introducing me to the staff members at a track here in Tennessee. And now a new venture begins. The world of motorsports is welcomed down here,,in fact the local police departments assist in the flow of traffic during major events. It will be a while before East End Productions will announce dates/location for "The Motorcycle Fair of Tennessee" in respect to the creation of such an event,, but it will be well worth the wait for the passion of the game...
The Long Island Motorcycle Fair has grown to become the largest one day show on Long Island (according to the NY visitors bureau). Without the strong support from the spectators, sponsors and volunteers this event would not be possible. The tradition continues Sunday, September 9th, 2007 at Riverhead Raceway. I am looking forward to coming back in the Spring/Summer season to promote for the show and to see friends and supporters. Until then,, have fun and ride safe...
